27th Jan - Strike action in Belgium

Travellers may experience disruption to travel in Belgium on 30 January 2012, as flights and rail services face disruption due to a planned general strike. The strike action officially begins at 22:00 on Sunday 29 January until 22:00 on Monday 30 January. Flights to and from airports in Belgium may be affected and travellers are advised to check the status of their flight before travelling to the airport.

26th Jan - Ryanair adds Budapest service

Budget carrier Ryanair will launch four new routes to Budapest from April. Birmingham, Bristol, Stansted and Dublin airports will gain low cost Ryanair flights to the Hungarian capital this summer.

25th Jan - BA to resume flights to Tripoli

British Airways will resume their service to Libya from May 1 with a planned three times a week schedule from London Heathrow to the country's capital, Tripoli. BA had originally suspended its services to Tripoli a year ago amid rising tensions in the North African country, but following "a thorough security review" in conjunction with the UK government and Libyan officials they decided to resume the service.

24th Jan - Vietnam begins Gatwick service

Vietnam Airlines has launched the first direct, non-stop flights between London Gatwick and two of Vietnam's main cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. The services will initially run four times a week, twice to each of the main airports, with plans for the frequency to increase to seven times per week by 2015.

20th Jan - Germanwings new route

Germanwings will now fly three times daily between London Heathrow and Cologne-Bonn starting in March, taking over the route currently operated by their parent company Lufthansa. The low cost carrier will also make flights available Catania for Sicily, Naples, Rijeka in Croatia and Nador in Morocco, once the summer schedule begins.

17th Jan - Vuleing add Spanish routes

Spanish low-cost airline Vueling continues its UK expansion by adding a new service from both Edinburgh and Southampton airports to Barcelona, which will start on June 22. The services will operate three flights a week from each city.
